The SBS Bank Southland Stags have strengthened their front row with the signing of Australian loosehead prop Jack Barrett for the 2026 NPC season.
Barrett arrives in Southland after spending the past three seasons in the NSW Waratahs programme, making his Super Rugby Pacific debut in 2024. A former Junior Wallabies representative, Barrett has progressed through the highly regarded NSW Gen Blue pathway and built a reputation as a hard-working front-rower with a strong set piece and plenty of potential.
Growing up in the rural New South Wales town of Lightning Ridge, Barrett says the opportunity to continue his rugby journey in Southland was one that immediately appealed. Stags Head Coach Scott Eade said Barrett was an exciting young player who would add valuable depth to the squad.
"Jack is a specialist loosehead prop who has already gained valuable experience in the Waratahs environment. He's a young player who loves the physical side of the game, is eager to keep developing and we believe Southland is a great place for him to take that next step. His attitude and work ethic are qualities that will fit well within our environment."
Barrett joins the Stags as injury cover in the specialist loosehead position and is looking forward to embracing the opportunity.
