Since 2020 Rugby Southland has run two Under 18 representative boys' teams with Metro and Country U18 competing against each other, as well as against Otago Metro U17 & U18, North Otago, and Otago Country U18. The players are picked based on where they played their first game of rugby in Southland which allows players from town schools to represent their home district. This gives 50+ of the most talented Under 18 players in the province exposure to a representative environment where they can put their best foot forward in pursuit of higher honours.
