Rugby Southland is pleased to announce first five-eight Marty McKenzie has re-signed with the the SIT Zero Fees Southland Stags for the 2021 Bunnings Warehouse NPC kicking off in August.
Marty has played 35 games for Southland, having been born and raised in Gore and playing several seasons, most recently 2019, for the Stags. He also made appearances with the NZ Under 20’s and Maori All Blacks as well as the Blues, Crusaders & Chiefs.
Last season McKenzie Captained Woodlands to the Galbraith Shield title, in a team that dominated the competition.
Head Coach Dale MacLeod is pleased to have a player of Marty’s experience and pedigree back in the team. “Marty has been a professional player for 10 + years. Having 2020 away has been good for Marty, he has returned fresh and keen to get back into the NPC. I want Marty to just get out and play rugby and enjoy himself. He understands the game very well and when he expresses himself things happen. This will be key to unleashing the talented back line we have assembled for 2021 ”.
McKenzie will be lining up once again for Woodlands in the Go Bus Southland Wide Senior Rugby Competition as they look to defend their title.
