Local Experience Signs Back With Stags

The SIT Zero Fees Southland Stags continue their string of early signings with two more players re-committing for the 2021 season.

Fullback Josh Moorby will return for his third season with Southland, while Mike McKee adds experience signing for his sixth Stags season.

Josh, who has been a member of the Woodlands premier team since arriving in Southland in 2019, brings an attacking threat that will test any defence.

Joining Moorby in the latest group of signings is lock Mike McKee, who has his roots in Northern Southland with the Barbarians and Waikaia RFC.

Coach Dale MacLeod knows these two signings are very important to the squads make up.

“Mike brings experience to the group and is a real important cog in our lineout. This is an area he lead  very well  in 2020. He brings skill set and an attitude that has real positive outcomes for the team.”

Josh Moorby joins Isaac Te Tamaki, Rory van Vugt, Tevita Latu and Solomon Alaimalo as currently signed backs, providing a great backbone for the 2021 attack.

“Josh performs at a very high standard every week. He is a real attacking threat, with a work rate to match.  He  has the ability to test the best teams in the competition. Breaking his hand in round 6 last year didn’t help his cause to push for a Super opportunity."

"Both Josh and Mike have grown into outstanding leaders both on and off the field and both can be a little grieved that they didn’t get an opportunity at Super level in 2021. I have no doubt that both Josh and Mike  will get their opportunity at some stage and when they do people will ask why it didn't happen earlier.

MacLeod is set to confirm several new and returning players over the coming weeks.
