Black Ferns bring Rugby World Cup to Invercargill schools

The Women's Rugby World Cup trophy was in Invercargill on Monday, accompanied by Black Ferns players Kendra Cocksedge and Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali.

The visit formed part of the Black Ferns World Cup tour, which included speaking engagements at Central Southland College and Southland Girls' High School.

Cocksedge said they were trying to get the World Cup, affectionately known and Nancy, around the country.

"Me and Vic, growing up we never had the opportunity, we didn't even know there was a New Zealand women's rugby team. Now these young girls coming through see that and they have role models in front of them," she said.

It was hugely important for the players to get out into communities and speaking with students.

"What's been cool for us is to sit in with the girls, have a chat with them, and have an interactive session where they can ask questions about how you prepare for games. It gives them role models as well, and something to aspire to by getting [the trophy] out in front of them," Cocksedge said.

Tomorrow, the trophy would be heading to St Peter's College in Gore.
