Morgan Mitchell Returns to SBS Bank Southland Stags

SBS Bank Southland Stags 50 cap Tighthead Prop Morgan Mitchell is returning to Southland for the 2022 Bunnings NPC Season.

Morgan, 28, last played for Southland in 2019 where he brought up his 50th game for the SBS Bank Southland Stags, a milestone that remains a highlight to this day.

The former Gore High School and Country Pirates/Athol and Star player is looking forward to joining the progress made since his last appearance in the jersey.

“Southland is my home and I’m playing in front of my friends and family. I just feel so much pride when I’m wearing the jersey”, said Mitchell.

At 123kg, he is a welcome addition to the squad, one that has been several seasons in the making.

For coach Dale MacLeod, Morgan is a key win for the team sheet.

“I’m really excited to have Morgy back in a Southland jersey. He was a standout in his last season before heading to Japan. He brings a no nonsense attitude to our forward pack and this is something that is needed if we  are to compete with the best teams in the comp and make semi’s in 2022. If the Stags deliver on the field then don’t be surprised if Morgy is playing Super Rugby in 2023.”, said MacLeod.

Southland has several exciting signings yet to come, so watch this space.
