SBS Bank Southland Stags’ Flynn Thomas Commits to Southland

The SBS Bank Southland Stags are pleased to lock in Marist’s Flynn Thomas for the 2022 Bunnings NPC Season.

Thomas, 23, made huge strides on and off the field in 2021, with his first season without serious injury in many years. The stalwart hooker played 29 games since his debut against Hawkes Bay at McLean Park in 2017, fresh from Southland Boys High School.

Southland born and bred; Flynn remembers growing up a Stags Fan.

“I was Stags fan growing up, long before I was fortunate enough to don the jersey. I definitely carry the same level of passion into a game and I want to see our team succeed regardless of whether or not I’m on the field”

“I love playing for the Stags and representing the province”.

Playing for Southland is still a special honour after five seasons with the side, with Flynn highlighting the 2019 win over Counites Manukau a highlight after the challenging 2017-19 period.

“It was so good to finally get the elusive win after two very tough years, albeit celebrating from the stand that game”.

Flynn is most excited about seeing what the terraces bring this season, noting the fans sabbatical due to covid last season.

“Arguably the best crowd in the competition” is how he described the Stags Fans.

For Stags forwards coach David Hall, he is pleased to have Flynn back and developing as a player.

“It is great to have Flynn recommit to the Stags for the 2022 season. Flynn has had to deal with plenty of setbacks in the past few years so it was awesome to see him get through the 2021 season injury free and start to play some quality rugby again. We are looking forward to watching his progress for Marist and the Stags in 2022.”.

Flynn will be playing for the Marist Premier’s in the Go Bus Southland Senior Rugby Competition.
